After a night of partying and in-depth socialization with alcoholic beverages, there’s usually one aftermath that we all dread; a hangover. Waking up with a rather unpleasant feeling that you are going to die in about five minutes. You try to open your eye and feel like a merciless sunbeam had squirted straight in. Your body feels as though you had somehow been on a cross-country run and then afterward, received an expert beating by the police. Hangovers make us feel bad.
Even though there is no real one-and-done cure (yet) for a hangover, below are some simple home remedies that can help you through the dreaded H-word:
-
- Natural Sugars.
Natural sugars from fruit juice such as orange and grapefruit help speed up the healing process. This they do by naturally restoring sugars in the body, helping you feel like a human being again. - Potassium.
Along with the wealth of body benefits that come with it, potassium is one great element for fastening the healing process of a hangover. When one is hangovered, the body suffers a great loss of Potassium. It is therefore advisable that the morning-after diet is rich in this particular element. Bananas, for example, are rich in this and would, therefore, come in handy in making one feel normal again. Other potassium-rich meals you can try are avocados and dried fruit as apricots, peaches, and figs. - Ginger Tea.
For breakfast, try to include ginger tea in your menu. Raw ginger is an all natural remedy for an upset tummy and can help hasten the path to recovery. - Eggs for breakfast.
Eggs are rich in the amino acid cysteine, which the liver needs to break down the alcohol toxin acetaldehyde. - Light exercise.
This may be the last thing one wants to hear when nursing a hangover, but exercise boosts the body’s metabolism. This naturally speeds up the rate at which the body gets rid of the alcohol toxins, making one feel better faster. So jog a little.
- Natural Sugars.
There is also an interesting one; drinking more alcohol the morning after, aka Hair of the Dog. This has been believed to be a cure for hangovers. But does it really work? The alcohol dulls our senses, making us feel like ourselves for some time. Sadly, hair of the dog is just a temporary fix. In a few hours, it will have circling back to the sad state we are all trying to run away from here. In as much as we dread to hear this, drinking in moderation still is the only effective trick. So next time you are at the pub and the rounds keep coming, be cool and ask for water. You will thank us in the morning.[vc_single_image image=”2344″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”]
