Grand Marnier 700ml
Picture a real Cognac with a glow of sun-warmed orange peel running through it. That's this. Pour a little into a glass after dinner and it goes silky and warm, all candied orange and vanilla, the kind of thing you nurse slowly instead of throwing back. It's also the secret weapon behind a proper Margarita and the Sidecar, so the bottle pulls double duty: a treat-yourself nightcap one night, the upgrade to your cocktail kit the next.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First hit is bright bitter-orange zest, like cracking fresh peel, with a little spice and dried-fruit depth behind it. The Cognac is what makes it grown-up: hazelnut, toffee, a touch of vanilla and oak, with a honeyed, almost silky weight on the tongue. It finishes long, the sweetness pulling back into a faint orange-marmalade bitterness and a whisper of pepper, so it never turns cloying. Sweet, yes, but balanced, not syrupy.

Where it's from

France, and there's a neat story here. Back in 1880 Louis-Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle did something a bit mad for the time: he took fine Cognac and married it with the essence of wild bitter oranges from the Caribbean, then aged the blend in oak. The oranges (Citrus bigaradia) are picked while still green so the peel carries more punch. The name? Hotel legend César Ritz reportedly suggested 'Grand Marnier,' and the red ribbon on the bottle, the Cordon Rouge, has been the signature ever since.

What does Grand Marnier 700ml taste like?

Rich bitter-orange and candied zest up front, with warm Cognac depth underneath: hazelnut, toffee, vanilla and oak. It's sweet but balanced, silky, and finishes long with a touch of marmalade bitterness.

What is the ABV of Grand Marnier?

40% ABV. It's a proper spirit-strength liqueur, so sip it or use it in cocktails rather than treating it like a soft drink.

How do I serve Grand Marnier?

Neat in a tulip glass after dinner, or over ice with an orange twist. It also shines in a Margarita, Sidecar or Grand Mimosa, and can be flamed over crêpes and desserts.

What pairs with Grand Marnier?

Dark chocolate, orange cake, crêpes, blue cheese, espresso, and roast duck. Basically anything you'd want a warm, orangey, after-dinner spirit beside.

Where is Grand Marnier from?

France. It was created in 1880 by Louis-Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle, blending Cognac with the essence of bitter Caribbean oranges, then ageing it in oak.

Is Grand Marnier a Cognac or a liqueur?

It's an orange liqueur built on a real Cognac base, which is why it tastes far deeper than a standard triple sec. That Cognac backbone is its whole point.
