Journey’s End Chardonnay is made from Chardonnay grapes grown on terroir made up of Decomposed Granite and Sandy Quartz. The vineyards which yield this fruit are heavily influenced by the cool breezes blowing off the ocean. This helps produce a wine with fresh acidity which when coupled with austere minerality creates a beautifully, fresh and delicate wine. It was a great vintage for us with vines producing exceptionally healthy, concentrated berries. The fruit was handpicked, carefully selected and then partially wild fermented in 300l French oak barrels to ensure the very best integration and balance. A further 7 months maturation in these same oak barrels has resulted in a delicious, elegant wine that drinks now and will cellar for a further 5-7 years.
Tasting Notes
Clear and bright, straw with a hint of green. The wine shows delicate citrus fruit and orange blossom characteristics as well as vanilla oak aromatics due to the generous 7 month barrelling period. The palate is smooth, with a zesty malic acid finish due to restrained malolactic fermentation. Drink now with potential aging until 2022.
